Sharks Fall Victim to Tars' Walk-Off Winning Homers

The series will conclude with a single game tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.

WINTER PARK, Fla. – In its final road doubleheader of the season, the Nova Southeastern softball team dropped both games at the hand of Rollins' Chandler Middlebro, as the designated player sent two walk-off winning home runs over the fence to seal the series win for the host Tars.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME ONE):
FINAL SCORE:  Rollins College Tars 4 (W: G. Street, 13-6), Nova Southeastern Sharks 2 (L: L. Storrer, 12-19)
RECORDS: NSU (18-24, 7-15 SSC), RC (24-19, 10-12 SSC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
BOTTOM 4TH: After three scoreless innings, the Tars took a 1-0 lead on an RBI-single by Chandler Middlebro.
 
TOP 7TH: Igniting the Sharks' rally, Dana Edmundson led the inning off with a double down the left field line before she was brought home two batters later on an RBI-single to center by Daniela Bautista. NSU took the lead, 2-1, another two batters later as Megan Granitto singled to left to score Bautista.
 
BOTTOM 7TH: With runners at first and second, Middlebro sent a walk-off three-run home run over the left center fence to take the first game of the series, 4-2.
 
INSIDE THE STATS:
  • The Sharks were limited to four hits in the first game, as Edmundson accounted for two of them, going 2-for-2 at the plate with one run scored.
  • Bautista and Granitto each went 1-for-3, tallying an RBI apiece, while Bautista scored once.
  • Lexie Storrer took the loss after pitching the full 6.2 innings and allowing four runs.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE: 
  • The Saints were forced to leave six stranded while the Sharks had just three.
  • Granitto's RBI was her first of the season.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME TWO):
FINAL SCORE (8 INN.):  Rollins College Tars 3 (W: G. Street, 14-6), Nova Southeastern Sharks 2 (L: L. Storrer, 12-20)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
BOTTOM 1ST: With two outs on the board, Lindsay Gehring singled up the middle to score Middlebro for a 1-0 Rollins edge.
 
TOP 5TH: After a groundout by Granitto, Megan Maloney and Kayla Kight put NSU in scoring position with back-to-back singles, before an error committed by the Tars allowed both to score for a 2-1 Shark advantage.
 
BOTTOM 8TH: Just like the first game, the Sharks fell victim to a walk-off game-winning home run by Middlebro, dropping game two 3-2.
 
INSIDE THE STATS:
  • NSU was once again held to just four hits, as Kight went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Kailynn Blackwood and Maloney each had one hit apiece while Maloney scored once.
  • Storrer took the loss for NSU, pitching the full game and allowing three runs on seven hits.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Rollins takes the series win with tonight's two wins.

The Sharks and the Tars will complete the series with a single game tomorrow morning with first pitch scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
